Istanbul, AN24) – No fewer than 28 people were killed and about 40 injured in a triple suicide attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport

Istanbul Ataturk, is Turkey’s largest airport and a major transport hub for international travelers.

Tuesday’s attack occurred after two explosions and gunfire rocked Istanbul’s Ataturk main international airport.

During the attack, 4 armed men were reportedly seen running away from the terminal building after the explosions, according to Turkey’s NTV channel.

Police have however opened fire to neutralise the suspects at an entry point as witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

Reacting to the incident, Istanbul governor, Vasip Sahin, revealed that at least 28 are reportedly died from the suicide attack.

“Three suicide bombers carried out an attack. Twenty-eight people have lost their lives. There are also 60 people injured,” Vasip Sahin told journalists.

Meanwhile recent bomb attacks in Turkey have been linked to Kurdish separatists or the so-called Islamic State group.

Furthermore, Meanwhile, scheduled flights are not allowed to take off from Istanbul airport, as passengers being transferred to hotels.
