Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez refuses rule out move away this summer

Riyad Mahrez has suggested he could be open to leaving Leicester City this summer. Mahrez, 25, was a key figure as Leicester won the most unlikely Premier League title in history last season, while also landing the PFA Player of the Year award. Such form has reportedly led to a host of clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona, being interested in the Algeria international, though the Foxes are determined to hold on to their player ahead of a maiden Champions League campaign next term.

While Mahrez says he would like to remain at Leicester, he won’t rule out leaving the King Power Stadium this summer.

“I am not putting pressure on myself [for next season],” he is quoted by the Daily Mirror as telling reporters at a promotional event in Tokyo.

“It will be a season about confirming [my ability]. Without pressure, I will have to work hard. Leicester is a family club. I would like to stay. I am very happy.”

“[The interest] is flattering to hear,” he added. “As I said, nothing is agreed, nothing is done. We will see. For the moment I have not made a decision. We will see. It is possible that I stay, it is possible that I leave. We will see.”

Leicester will be doing their best to keep Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante, as well as Mahrez, at the club this summer.

Vardy has been the subject of a bid from Arsenal, though the England international is reportedly set to snub the Gunners, while Kante has been linked with a number of clubs from across Europe.
