FRSC seeks partnership with NSCIA on road safety

Boboye Oyeyemi

The Federal Road Safety Corps has said it would collaborate with the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs to ensure safer roads in the country.

The Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, said this in Benin, Edo State on Saturday during the General Assembly of the NSCIA.

Oyeyemi said the collaboration could be in road safety advocacy, education and enlightenment of followers of Islam.

Oyeyemi explained that the need for partnership with religious bodies on road safety became imperative because leadership of such bodies had overwhelming influence on their followers.

He said FRSC was also willing to partner traditional rulers in same vein.

The Corps’s boss commended the President General of the NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, for championing advocacy for safer roads in the country.

He said: “We want people to be educated on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations and to have tolerance for other road users.

“We will commence the enforcement of the use of speed limiting device from October 1 this year.

“We are also advocating the use of crash helmet and disuse of expired tyres.

“We are appealing to the council to assist us to educate its followers on these areas and other road safety issues.”
